Fire Jam Friday

Alright ladies and gents, it's Friday and I'm about to head down to ATL to watch the Yanks play the Braves. But not before I get this FJF going. We got a special week for ya seeing as the first ever FJF was posted on August 29, 2014. So along with my new FJF for this week, I created a one year anniversary "best of" playlist for the first 52 FJFs I've done. I took 4 songs from each FJF and put em all on one. So enjoy, it's awesome.

CC Sabathia Headed to the DL...AKA He's a Team Player

ESPNNEW YORK -- If you have watched CC Sabathia as a Yankee, you have seen him lead them to a World Series title in 2009. If you have listened to him as a Yankee, you have heard a player who is fully invested in winning.
If Sabathia were to never throw another pitch for the New York Yankees, he would be rightfully remembered as a champion. This is what Sabathia has meant to the franchise.
The severity of Sabathia's latest problem with his knee is unclear, but it seems pretty certain that knee will not be able to handle the rigors for Sabathia to be a top pitcher again. His return for this season is also in serious doubt.
All this said, for the Yankees in 2015, as unkind as it may be to say, it is addition by subtraction.
Sabathia, at $23 million, wasn't helping that much this season. Even in his last three starts, when -- in his words -- he said, "Screw it," and decided not to protect the knee and just deal with the pain, his results were better as his fastball rose to 94 mph, but he was not the Sabathia of old.
Over those three starts, Sabathia pitched to a 3.38 ERA, going six innings in two of them and 6 2/3 in the other. It was a little better, but it couldn't mask his overall numbers of 4-9 with a 5.27 ERA.
Listening to Sabathia after the Yankees' loss Sunday, he sounded like we all do at different points in our life. The mind and the heart still want to do what the body can't.
“It is super frustrating because it is still in there,” Sabathia said. “The last couple of starts, you guys have seen. It is just frustrating I can’t do it every time.”
The Yankees can make up for Sabathia's loss pretty easily. It often is a mistake to count out an athlete with the talent and determination of Sabathia, but you have to think that even an unproven but talented rookie like Bryan Mitchell -- even after taking a liner that broke his nose -- could come back soon and pitch close to the level of a 35-year-old Sabathia.
Mitchell threw a bullpen on Sunday, a little less than a week after the scary scene in which he took a liner off his face. He will throw a simulated game in Tampa early this week and could probably slide in the rotation soon after.
This could preserve the Yankees' plan to protect their starters -- most notablyMasahiro Tanaka -- with a six-man rotation. The Yankees already have Michael Pineda returning from the DL on Wednesday to soften the loss of Sabathia.
The Yankees, from the front office to the clubbies, appreciate Sabathia. They see how hard he has worked to come back. The pain he has pitched through to try to succeed. But there have been no full solutions to his loss of ace form, last seen in 2012.
Even if this injury turns out to be the worst case for Sabathia, there is no financial relief for the Yankees. Sabathia is owed $25 million next year. His $25 million for 2017 is negated only if Sabathia has a shoulder issue.
It is Sabathia's knee that has given out on him. On a day the Yankees honored his good friend Andy Pettitte, you could tell it is killing Sabathia on the inside he can't consistently find success.
He seems to have a pretty good excuse for why he can't perform at his former level. That still won't make him feel any better -- and it doesn't shade the naked truth that the Yankees are probably better off without the 2015 Sabathia than they are with him.
It is frustrating for him. Sad for the team's fans. But reality isn't always pretty.

As bad as my title and ESPN's headline are, it's the truth. I love CC. He's an absolute boss, an incredible teammate, and he was a huge part of the 2009 World Series team. He was a great pitcher for a good amount of years, but he just doesn't have it anymore. It's probably a combination of the injuries he's had as well as just a loss of talent as he gets older. Like I said, I love CC, but the Yankees are in line for a playoff spot and a 5.27 ERA doesn't belong anywhere near October baseball. I love CC's attitude of late just saying "screw it" and trying to pitch as best as he can while injured but he finally realized it wasn't worth it. He doesn't feel good, and he isn't helping the team much. It sucks, but the Yankees will actually probably be better off with CC on the DL.
That being said, the offense needs to find its groove again after another dismal series against the Indians. They need Tex back, and they need A-Rod to pick it back up as we hit the final stretch of the regular season. And I can't believe I'm saying this in late August, but how the hell is Stephen Drew still on this baseball team? I didn't know it was possible for a guy to bat well under .200 for over a year and still have a job. Refsynder needs to get called back up immediately. Games are beginning to matter more and more and for there to be that big of a hole in this line up is inexcusable when there's a far better option just waiting to get a call.
The Yankees' rotation for the rest of the season looks to be Tanaka, Severino, Eovaldi, Nova, Pineda with Bryan Mitchell probably getting a spot start here or there to give some guys an extra day of rest. In all honesty, I've been calling our rotation pretty mediocre for much of the year because they are. However, I'm more than comfortable with giving the ball to those guys in September. Tanaka will almost always give you a quality start and has the ability to throw a gem every time out. Severino is filthy and will only get better with more starts in the big leagues. Eovaldi is on a roll and even though his 4.24 ERA isn't good, he gets incredible run support for whatever reason. The guy just doesn't lose. Nova has great stuff, but we've yet to really see him put it together this year. I imagine he'll get better as he continues to get more comfortable after returning from Tommy John surgery. And Pineda is returning this Wednesday from injury and if he can be what he was at the beginning of the year, then the Yankees are fine. Looking forward to enjoying some great baseball down the stretch here. Should be an exciting finish in a lot of the divisions, especially the AL East.

Sidenote: Tanaka and Severino are the probables for the Friday and Saturday games I'm going to in Atlanta. I don't think I could get a better pairing than that so hopefully Girardi doesn't do anything weird and mess up the rotation this week. I'm trying to see a couple of dubs, Joe.

Hope Week is Awesome for a Ton of Reasons, and A-Rod Baking Cookies for Kids is One of Them

A photo posted by yankees (@yankees) on

Hope Week is one of the coolest things the Yankees do as an organization and I love it every year. They bring a lot of joy to a lot of kids and it's awesome. And this year it's especially awesome because A-Rod in a baking outfit is one of the funniest pictures of the year. Just as goofy as ever and I love it. Keep it up Alex.

Fire Jam Friday

I know the blog is getting pretty pathetic but I'm not gonna stop doing Fire Jam Fridays. Got some great new music this week. Carly Rae Jepsen's new album is finally out after like five straight weeks of new singles. It's probably the best album released in 2015 so far. If Carly Rae was any hotter she'd combust. We've also got some new Carrie Underwood and Nick Jonas among others. Mix in a few classics and you've got another awesome FJF so enjoy.

Fire Jam Friday

STAY HOT CARLY RAE! This girl is on an absolute tear right now just releasing a new song each week. When she finally releases her album next week, are there gonna be any songs I haven't heard yet? They're all straight fire and it's absurd. If this were baseball, she'd have like a 45 game hitting streak right now, that's how hot she is. The rest of the playlist is fire too but Carly Rae staying hot is obvi the highlight.

2015 PGA Championship

So it's just about time for the final major event of the summer and I cannot wait. Our boy BCoe has been out in Wisconsin all summer working at the course (he took that sick pic) and says things are getting ready to go. I figured I'd do a little preview since it should be an awesome weekend. Rory is finally back from his freak injury, Spieth has been hot lately, Tiger is still looking for a big win.

Players to watch:
There are some awesome pairings on Thursday that you should definitely look out for. The first is at 1:20pm and is Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson. It's no secret as to why this is such an insane grouping. Spieth has been crushing the PGA all summer, Rory is a legendary golfer who is coming off an injury and Johnson just won the Open Championship. Spieth is at +550 to win it all, Rory is +900 and Johnson is +4000. Obviously Johnson isn't as heavily favored as the other two but that's still pretty good odds. Rory has won the last 2 of 3 PGA Championships so him winning isn't too crazy of a thought. The only thing that's hindering him is that this is first tournament back since he suffered a nasty ankle injury. Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the top of the leader boards come Sunday.
Jordan Spieth has become a house hold name in the U.S. from his incredible play lately. The kid has not taken his foot off the pedal and I love it. He won the Masters, the U.S. Open and tied for 4th in the Open Championship after just missing the playoff. I'd love to see Spieth win and make it perfectly clear that it's Jordie's world and we're all just living in it.

The next group is my favorite grouping in recent memory. Jason Dufner, Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington. What a group of goons. Duf will be out there packing a ton of lips, Lefty will be betting on everyone and Paddy H will just be hammered. Is there anyway we can just get a camera on them the whole round? In all seriousness, I'd love to see Dufner or Mickelson win. Both are great golfers that haven't been playing at their best lately. Duf won back in 2013 so he's shown that he can do it. He's the people's golfer. Just an average joe, loves his college football, loves dipping and has a smokin' hot ex wife.Lefty has been fighting for a major win recently so it would be exciting to finally see him get that.

My next guy to watch is the legend, Dustin Johnson. DJ took a brief hiatus from golf so he could figure his shit out (aka kick his blow habit and have a child with Paulina Gretzky). All season he's been nipping at the leaders' heels but chokes Rickie Fowler esque and can't finish the job which sucks. I'd love to see DJ win a major. He's been playing solid golf and as long as he doesn't blow it on Sunday I think he has a legitimate shot at winning.
DJ is +1200 to win it all.

Who will win it all?
I'm sure a lot of people think this is a lame or easy pick but I genuinely think that Spieth is going to be #1 on Sunday. He's the number 1 golfer in the FedEx cup rankings and is #2 in the World Golf Rankings, none of that is by mistake. It's because he's simply one of the best in the PGA right now, right next to McIlroy. It would be great to see Spieth continue his dominance. That would be 3 of the 4 majors this season which is absolutely incredible. It wont be easy but I think if anyone can do it, it's Spieth.

Zayn Malik, Who Left One Direction to Spend More Time with His Fiancee, Dumped His Fiancee

SourceZayn Malik has called off hisengagement to Perrie Edwards, PEOPLE has learned.

The former One Direction singer has left his Little Mix fiancée "devastated," according to a source.

Malik, 22, contacted Edwards, also 22, two weeks ago and said it was over.

"She's been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated," the source tells PEOPLE.

Perrie's being supported by her bandmates, but she's really in pieces about this."

In an interview with E! on Tuesday, Edwards was asked a question about how she's doing after the split, responding: "I'm good, thank you."

The couple got engaged in August 2013, dashing the dreams of millions of One Direction fans.

Although they have had their ups and downs, Edwards stood by Malik as he made the decision to quit the chart-topping band in March.

"He wanted to go and spend some time with his family and missus," former bandmate Liam Payne said in May

After getting engaged, the couple were dogged by rumors about when they would wed, but never set concrete plans.

Edwards and Malik are both currently in Los Angeles as she promotes Little Mix's single "Black Magic" and he works on his new record deal with RCA, but according to the source, they haven't seen each other.

She has now taken off her diamond engagement ring, as seen in a Monday poston Instagram by her bandmate Jesy Nelson.

I don't get it. All this time I didn't know who Perrie Edwards was. Now that I know she's part of the girl group band Little Mix ("Black Magic" is a fucking JAM by the way) I'm pretty confused. How can this chick force Zayn to leave the best band in the world to be with her more when she's in the same business. I mean I know Little Mix isn't as big as 1D but it's the principle of the matter. So I guess Harry Styles shoulda just quit back when he was dating Taylor Swift and could just sit at home while she goes on her own world tours? No that's not how it works. If you've got two performers dating, you either deal with it or split up. You don't leave your band to be with them and then split up. That's so backwards and fucked it makes me sick.

Also, if Zayn thinks he can rejoin 1D now after the break up, he's got another thing coming. You can't leave a group and then have a reunion three months later. He's gotta at least go do his own thing for a couple years and see what happens. I could care less either way. "Drag Me Down" is absolute fire without Zayn but also I'd probably welcome him back with open arms if they let him back.
