Clemson University's president and students are outraged over a controversial party held Saturday night. The gang-themed gathering led to the suspension of a fraternity's officers, and university officials say more suspensions are possible. Saturday night, several students sent pictures of the party to WYFF News4 over social media. They were speaking out against a party called "#ClemsonCripmas." Pictures from the party showed students dressed up in gang apparel. Clemson students also used social media to rally a protest over the party at the university president's house Sunday morning. Late Sunday night, Clemson officials told WYFF News4's Mike McCormick that the university's Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter members, their alumni advisory board and the national headquarters decided to suspend all activity indefinitely. Most of the fraternity chapter's officers have resigned from their positions and have been suspended from the organization, according to the statement. University officials said any member who attended the party may face suspension as well, pending the results of an internal investigation.
Absolutely brutal semester for Clemson fraternities. Not too long ago all fraternities on campus were suspended after a pledge drowned. They're finally back from suspension and SAE goes and does this. Probably not the best look. I feel like everyone knows that if you have an offensive party, you're going to get in trouble. Not sure why SAE went through with this anyways. Pretty stupid. When you're in hot water, it's probably not smart to come out and have a party like this. It personally doesn't offend me, but I could see how it would offend some people. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sigma Alpha Epsilon get kicked off campus or shut down. There have been some negative stories surrounding Clemson greek life lately and this certainly won't help.
