Before you make fun of the Ice Bucket Challenge again, I urge you to watch this short film that ESPN did on it. You can watch here. You can also read about it here.
Listen, I don't care if you're annoyed that there are too many videos of people pouring ice on themselves on Instagram or Facebook or whatever. The point of this is to raise awareness about ALS. The objective is not to pour the ice over your head OR donate, it's to pour the ice over your head AND donate. If you are doing the IBC and using it for 15 seconds of fame rather than raising awareness, then yes you are an asshole.
"Washington, D.C. (August 18, 2014) — As of Monday, August 18, The ALS Association has received $15.6 million in donations compared to $1.8 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 18)." -ALS Association
Now how are you going to tell me that this Ice Bucket Challenge hasn't done anything and is stupid? Look at how much money has been raised, there's clearly a direct correlation between the donations and the Ice Bucket Challenge. If you don't want to dump ice on your head, that's fine but don't say how dumb and pointless the whole thing is. Can you imagine having your body deteriorating and not barely being able to function? I sure can't. I also think it's really cool how there are all these celebrities and athletes doing it. It brings these athletes out of the spotlight for a minute and making them like the common man. I think that's awesome, as well as the fact that they're taking the time out of their day to raise awareness for this disease. So before you say how stupid the challenge is, try and imagine what it would be like to wake up one day and find out that you are dying.
If you haven't donated, you should and you can right here.
If you want to donate to the Pete Frates #3 Fund you can do so here
