Source: CLEMSON - A former Clemson women's soccer player is suing 14 ex-teammates, three coaches and 13 administrators for their alleged role in a hazing incident three years ago.
Haley Ellen Hunt, now a senior attending Clemson University, is the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed Aug. 15 with the Pickens County Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.
She seeks damages for medical bills stemming from a hazing ritual that led to Hunt's traumatic brain injury - which progressively worsened in the fall of 2013, according to her Charleston-based attorney.
"She was forced to basically retire from soccer, at the request of her neurologist," Robert E. Sumner IV told The Post and Courier on Wednesday. "Her life's been permanently changed, for what she's had to go through during this whole nightmare."
In the 36-page lawsuit, Hunt describes the night of Aug. 18, 2011, when she and other freshman players were blindfolded in their dormitories, forced into the trunks of automobiles and driven around campus to multiple locations.
After a 30-minute car ride ending at the soccer complex, Hunt says she and the freshmen were ordered to commit humiliating and demeaning acts. They were spun around and disoriented, before being commanded to run down Riggs Field still blindfolded.
According to the lawsuit, the older players screamed at Hunt to run faster, before she veered off the field and collided with a brick wall. Another player described the sound as "metal hitting metal."
Perfect. Just as Clemson scoots into the Top 20 Public Universities, this girl's gotta come along suing everybody and their mother for hazing. Unbelievable. Might as well shut down every fraternity that's ever existed at every university in the country. Good for you Haley Hunt. Get the hazing issue into the spotlight as if hazing just became a thing. Hazing happens. Get over it. I'll be interested in what the "humiliating and demeaning acts" are but other than that, it's your standard hazing. Blindfold them, run around in circles and then try to go from one end of the field to another. If you run into a brick wall, then so be it. Don't claim that that is your first concussion when you've been heading balls and getting kicked in the head for your entire soccer career. I'm calling bullshit on the whole permanent brain damage thing too. No one, and I mean no one, makes Dean's List in fucking Bio-engineering here with consistent headaches, no concentration ability, and shitty vision. Not happening. So Haley, you're telling me you breeze through one of our toughest majors at Clemson while you have headaches all the time, can't concentrate, and can't see, and it's all getting worse. Yeah, no that's bullshit. Get outta my face with that. I have so many issues with this thing because I wanna feel bad for this chick, but then there's so many ridiculous accusations that I realized it's just some girl and her parents trying to make a shitload of money because she got a concussion once. Just keep acing all of your classes, you'll make money someday with a Bio-engineering degree from Clemson. Don't slander your university for no fucking reason. Also calling BS on the coach calling her and telling her to not come to Clemson because she's from South Carolina. Umm are you kidding me? Coaches want players from in-state, if they're good enough of course. You don't want to be losing recruiting battles to your in-state rivals. That's absurd. And how bout this other chick saying that when Haley ran into the BRICK wall it sounded like METAL HITTING METAL? What the fuck does that even mean? A human head running into a brick wall sounds like metal hitting metal. Not buying it. I've been to the soccer field too. There's not any brick wall on the sides of the field that's head-high. And no one else wandered in a different direction? EVERYONE ELSE just made it perfectly down to the other end of the field while dizzy and blindfolded? I know I'm all over the place here, but none of this story makes any sense. Especially the suing 13 administrators part. Okay fine sue our administration for ignoring this issue. They probably reviewed it and said "oh that doesn't make any fucking sense" and went back to worrying about other, more important shit. LOVE the stance that Clemson takes here, too. No "oh we'll launch an investigation on the matter". Just straight up "fuck you we already dealt with this, it's all false, we'll sweep you under the rug in a fucking second". That's why we're a Top 20 institution. How bout these charges too? Intentional infliction of emotional distress? This girl was probably giggling as she "walked into the wall". Probably thought it was hilarious. Probably looked forward to making the next year's freshmen do the same thing since it's a tradition for the women's soccer team since like the 80s and no one's given a shit until now. Assault? Battery? False imprisonment? Are you kidding? That's gotta be a fuckin joke. Unreal. I'll stand by my school through all of this horse shit.
And while I'm ranting, NO WAY is UConn a better university than Clemson. Shocking development there.
